My time in Perth was extremely bad planned for watching some sports so after searching far and wide I finally found something I could spend my time on. I’m used to watching atleast 5+ games of soccer in a week on several occasions so now I was in a dire need to catch a game! The plan was to try and catch a Perth Glory game but the male team wasn’t playing and I didn’t bother spending 15$ on a womens game so I took a slow start to the day and instead headed up towards Dorrien Gardens in the afternoon to catch some lower league games. Appearantly they had something called Women’s NPL Night Series that was played as 2 games in a row at the same stadium for only one ticket. Or to be fair I couldn’t find an ATM on my way there and the kiosk at the stadium wouldn’t let me withdraw any cash so I kinda snook in… Saved me a fiver at least!
The first game was between Murdoch University Melville FC and Subiaco AFC. MUMFC was controlling the whole first half. It was so bad that they could pretty much played without a goalie. Second half changed completely. SAFC was pressing and took control from the start of the half. It got so bad that that the coach of MUMFC took a good old “big grandpa Wengz” on his water bottle. As expected the ref didn’t see it… Towards the end MUMFC got 2 quick goals, one of them was sheer brilliance to win the game.
The second game was a bit more open but Perth SC seemed to always be just below the level of Northern Redbacks. Both teams were pressing hard the whole game but NR just used their chances better than PSC. In my opinion the result of 4-1 for NR isn’t the perfect way to tell how the game was. But sometimes a result is a result and there’s nothing you can do with it!
Even if it wasn’t a pair of top level games it was a fun experience to be able to check of another country to my list of football stadiums. Will I try to do something similar again? Of course I will! As long as the ball is somewhat round I’m going for it!
